Cottage Description
Corner House is a traditional stone cottage in the pretty village of Grinton in Swaledale. The property sleeps up to four people in two bedrooms and has room for a cot in either bedroom. The master bedroom has delightful views up the dale towards Calva Hill and the second bedroom has views of Fremington Edge. At the front of the cottage, there is a small patio garden, which is equipped with garden furniture and a barbecue - and to the side the house, there is the possibility of parking for one car.
The porch at the front of the cottage provides a useful space for storing outdoor clothes and boots - and cleaning up pet dogs’ messy paws! There are several hooks for coats and hats and there is a bench to sit on for dealing with boots and a boot rack underneath it. A small cupboard provides space for coal buckets and a rubbish recycling bag (paper only). The top of the cupboard has baskets for hats, gloves and dog towels.
Corner House has a pretty sitting room with an exposed beam ceiling and a fireplace. The room has two windows, which give plenty of light, as well as views of the village church to the front and the escarpment known as Fremington Edge to the side. A sofa and three armchairs provide comfortable seating, and warm lighting and a multi-fuel stove add to the room’s cosy atmosphere. In addition to the multi-fuel stove in the sitting room (smokeless fuel is provided), there are electric storage radiators throughout the cottage for the cooler days and nights of the year. Fuel and electricity are included in the rental tariff. A flat-screen television with Freesat satellite TV and radio reception are provided, along with a DVD player and a bookshelf stocked with local tourist information and a small library of books.
To the other side of the front door, also overlooking the church, is the attractively furnished dining room with a sideboard and a dining table for seating up to four people. A glass-fronted display cabinet, a long-case clock and a delft rail, with a collection of china, complete the furnishings. The dining room has a large cupboard under the stairs, which is used for storing laundry equipment and garden furniture, with extra space for outdoor clothing.
Adjacent to the dining room is a fully fitted kitchen with solid oak worktops and plenty of cooking equipment to meet most culinary tastes. The kitchen is small, but it is extremely well-equipped with a dishwasher, a washing machine, a ceramic hob, a cooker hood, an electric fan oven and a microwave oven. A large fridge-freezer provides more than adequate food storage, and there are all the usual small appliances, including a kettle and a toaster. The drawers and cupboards are well stocked with matching cutlery, crockery and glassware - a minimum of six of everything will ensure that you do not run short.
A staircase leads up from the hallway to a small landing on the first floor, which gives access to two lovely bedrooms, a shower room and a cloakroom. The spacious master bedroom has a king-size half-tester bed, bedside tables and reading lights. A curtain hanging behind the bed gives an attractive decorative touch. There is a knee-hole dressing table with drawers and a large mirror, a triple wardrobe and a large chest of drawers, providing plenty of drawer and hanging space. This bedroom overlooks the church and has delightful views up the dale towards Reeth and Calva Hill beyond. A small armchair set by the window provides a pleasant place to sit and contemplate the view. If there is a baby in your party, you will need to bring a travel cot with you - for which there is ample room in either bedroom. There is a fitted stairgate at the top of the staircase for the security of young children. All bed linen, kitchen linen and personal towels are included in the rental tariff..
The equally spacious second bedroom is furnished with twin beds, which can be joined together to form a large double bed if required.. Two individual reading lamps are provided on a bedside table between the two beds. The bedroom is also furnished with a double wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror. Both windows in the room have wonderful views of the church and the dale, looking towards Fremington Edge. Both bedrooms still have the original Victorian fireplaces in situ. However, unless you bring your housemaid with you, you will probably not wish to light them!
The shower room has a 90 cm quadrant shower, a hand basin and a WC. The adjacent separate cloakroom has a hand basin and a WC. Over the hand basin is a lighted mirror with a shaver socket and the cloakroom has a fine view of the dale from the window!
Corner House has a small patio garden to the front of the cottage with pretty flowerbeds and shrubs. Garden furniture, a small barbecue and a rotary clothes line are all provided for guests to use. When not required, they are kept in the cupboard under the stairs in the dining room. Alongside the cottage is a small area of common land (known as "the village green"), providing off-street parking and access to a lockable shed, which is ideal for storing bikes, bike racks and roof racks. The land is just large enough for a single car or two small cars to be parked on it. Although rarely used by anyone else, it is, nevertheless available for all to use on a first-come first-served basis.
Corner House is one of our dog friendly holiday homes, one well behaved dog welcome. There are a number of dog friendly pubs in the area and plenty of dog friendly walks close by which make this dales holiday apartment an ideal choice if you are looking for pet friendly accommodation.
To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed linen and towels are provided. The electricity and smokeless fuel is included in the rental price.
